Product Descriptions and Photography

When advertising and selling items, the description, photography, and cataloguing of one or multiple items is integral to the success of the sale.  

 

A product description is a written representation of a product including its features and specifications. A good description would allow someone to effectively visualise or identify the product without any visual representation (such as a photograph).  

 

A product photograph is a visual representation of a product, designed to capture the item in its best form making it look as appealing to the potential customer as possible, whilst also not misleading viewers in any way. Further photographs can be taken of different angles of an item and any specific areas of interest or damage for use in condition reports.  

 

Cataloguing refers to the organisation of products into a categorised, systematic, and structured format. The catalogue created can be presented in both physical or digital form, and will include information such as product name, description, prices, and category.  

 

I have spent many years working in fine art and antique auction houses, resulting in a diverse range of experience in writing highly detailed product descriptions, capturing compelling product photographs, and meticulously cataloguing a wide array of items, including (but not limited to): 

• Silver, including cutlery sets, jewellery, tea sets, and trophies.  

• Jewellery, including rings, necklaces, bracelets, and watches.  

• Costume jewellery selections ranging from a small collection of precious jewellery to extensive collections, fully catalogued and presented in photographs for optimal visibility.  

• Ceramics, including figurines, vases, and dinner services. 

• Furniture pieces from single chairs to mirrors to wardrobes.  

• Artwork including oil paintings, watercolours, and prints.  

• Collectables such as militaria, books, and toys.  

• Objets d’art pieces ranging from writing slopes to statement clocks, sculptures to taxidermy, and pocket watches to pens.
